About this Event
In these challenging times, one of the strongest forms of resistance is living and connecting as human beings, and celebrating our achievements when we work together in a spirit of unity, togetherness, and solidarity. Please join Green Kordofan and Waging Peace in a collaborative event of celebration.
November marks Green Kordofan's 10-year anniversary as a charity. For a decade we have been providing sports, education and personal development programmes to war displaced children from Sudan who live in Yida Refugee Camp across the border in South Sudan. We have maintained our commitment to the children of Yida through dictatorship rule in Sudan, a people's-led revolution, and sadly now a devastating war threatening the very fabric of Sudanese society. We currently support almost 2000 children, offering structure, hope and community in an often-hostile environment. We want to celebrate what we have achieved TOGETHER, because we could not do it without you.
The event will feature rarely displayed and never-before-exhibited historic and current photographs of Sudan by eminent photographers Jil Orpen and Jérôme Tubiana, and contributions by Waging Peace, a charity supporting Sudanese individuals in the UK to build meaningful lives. This includes the beautiful 'Peace by Piece' giant toub or patchwork quilt representing Sudanese women's calls for freedom, peace, and justice, which has been displayed in the Houses of Parliament, viewed by King Charles, and recently been displayed in London's Imperial War Museum.
After viewing the exhibition, guests will enjoy presentations by Sudan experts Green Kordofan, Waging Peace and Peter Verney who will talk about Songs of Resistance, all introduced by award-winning actress Jessica Hynes. We will also have contributions from local artists and supporters plus live Music by the Soul Arc Ensemble.
Waging Peace supported Director Raga Gibreel to set up Green Kordofan as a charity in its earliest days and the two organisations are proud to collaborate on this celebratory event.
