About this Event
They will discuss our connection to nature and the importance of supporting and protecting it, as well as rewilding initiatives bringing green spaces back into urban environments, and community projects driving change - focusing on the health benefits of plants within community gardens. A live Q&A will follow their discussion.

Matt Collins is a garden and landscape writer, and Head Gardener at the Garden Museum in London. Trained at the Botanic Garden of Wales, Matt contributes articles on horticulture, nature and travel for publications including The Guardian, Spectator, RHS's The Garden and Hortus. He writes a monthly column for the Daily Telegraph and reviews for Gardens Illustrated. Matt has several books published internationally by Pavilion Books. Matt’s interests lie at the intersection between cultivated and natural environments; his latest book, Forest, Walking Among Trees traces an intercontinental pathway between British trees and their wild-wooded counterparts, and was shortlisted for an Edward Stanford Travel Writing award.

James Godfrey-Faussett is an expert forest maker with 26 years of horticultural, landscaping, and garden design experience. His specialty is the integration of organic and biodynamic methods, and mastery of the Miyawaki Method. SUGi is a global community creating ultra-dense biodiverse forests in urban environments.

Nat Mady is a Hackney-based permaculturist with a passion for connecting people with nature in their urban locality. In 2015, she founded Hackney Herbal, a social enterprise promoting wellbeing using herbs as a way to share knowledge about plants and their many creative uses. As a keen gardener she is happiest with her hands in the soil, playing with plants, talking to birds or chatting to others about the wonders of the natural world. She is the author of 'Enjoying Wild Herbs' from a series of pamphlets created by Rough Trade Books in partnership with Garden Museum.

Ashley Edwards is Head Gardener at Horatio's Garden London & Southeast at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore where he manages and lovingly cares for the garden, which is used as a sanctuary by patients with spinal injuries. Horatio’s Garden is a national charity creating and nurturing beautiful gardens in NHS spinal injury centres that are fully wheelchair accessible. Ashley also runs horticulture workshops for patients, offering a chance to learn new skills and spend times outdoors, taking in the benefits of nature. Since graduating from Royal Botanic Gardens Kew in 2014, his profession has taken him to beautiful gardens across the world, including Longwood Gardens in the USA and the Anna Tasca Lanza Cooking School in Sicily. Before working at Horatio's Garden, Ashley was Gardener In Charge at Strawberry Hill House, Twickenham. Working through the national lockdown, he witnessed first-hand the positive impact and necessity of public green space for the community. Ashley's passion is engaging people with plants and making gardening as accessible as possible.

The TOAST Creative Residency is a three day programme of talks, workshops and live demonstrations that aims to bring together a like minded community of creative individuals. The programme, inspired by our seasonal campaign Rewilding, is open to all and aims to connect individuals and foster thought.
The annual TOAST Creative Residency brings together a community of creative individuals. This year, we are hosting our first blended Creative Residency, with a three-day programme of engaging talks, workshops and live demonstrations hosted both online and in person. The programme, inspired by our seasonal campaign titled Rewilding, is open to all to connect individuals and foster thought.
We know that this changing landscape is extremely difficult for makers and creatives alike. We would like to show our support for the craft community by collecting donations for Crafts Council UK. These donations will help to fund Young Craft Citizens - a programme of workshops, paid opportunities and creative and professional advice for young people from all backgrounds interested in shaping the future of craft, design and making in the UK.
