Description: We will tour portions of the natural area which have been subject to habitat restoration and prescribed fire in recent years. We will look at how active management is benefiting native flowers across the site and see the benefits of applying fire to thelandscape. Many native plants are fire adapted and we’ll see how they have been affected. Panoramic views of native grasses will be a feature of this hike. Participants should be able to travel 2-3 miles over rocky trails and be comfortable venturing off trail to view certain species. The terrain is relatively flat but shade from the sun is hard to come by in the glades. Please wear closed toe shoes and be aware that there are not any facilities on site. For guests travelling, there is camping and cabin rental available at Cedars of Lebanon State Park, just 20 minutes away.
Note: There is a $10 fee, see the Natural Areas website
to register and pay.
