What? A Tiny Desk like concert here in Kinjarling-Albany?Uptown Music and Jazztrix Quartet team up to put on a live in-store concert on Tuesday night 25th of November.
Just like a Tiny Desk concert, the concert of all original, locally written jazz music will be filmed and recorded for broadcast on YouTube. You can be part of this herstoric incident!
If you're interested in live music, local music, original music, jazz, or learning more about the process, please come on down.
Entry is by donation to the band, so start saving! ;-)
Entry is at the back door from 6:30 p.m. and the secret password is... a) "Let me in, please.", b) "Hi", or c) "Oh, I thought the shop was still open, sorry."
Well it so happens the shop will be open so you can shop while you listen. There's a 10% discount for anything purchased in full on the night. We will therefore understand anyone trying out guitars, playing the usually-banned-in-music-shops riffs from Stairway to Heaven or Smoke on the Water during the band's performance.
More about the music? There are so many types of jazz music, music that originated in cross-cultural exchange in New Orleans more than 100 years ago, and diversified as it spread throughout the world. You'll hear tunes such as:
Balingup Blues - Swing
Carnival of Lunacy - Bossa Nova
Mambo D'Mulcho - Mambo
Madfish - Contemporary jazz
Journey to the Centre - Modal jazz
King Banana Calypso - Calypso
Sky Singin' Blue - Modal Jazz-blues
Close - Neo-Soul
Tide Jazz-waltz
Soul Porpoise - Soul-jazz
While we have many more original jazz tunes, we'll be lucky to get through all of these in an hour, because Ross will solo for about 20 minutes on each song! ;-)
Live music is from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday 25th of November at Uptown Music, St. Emile Way, Kinjarling-Albany. Entrance is via the back door (we'll know if you've read the small print!). Come along, and enjoy with us!
The band will feature:
David Rastrick - trumpets and vocals
Ross Dwyer - guitar
Grant Moulden - downright bass
Lauchlan Gillett - drum-set
We'd like to thank Neil from Albany Blues Club for this bright idea, and Uptown Music for being open to giving it a go!
Once more: Live music is from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday 25th of November at Uptown Music, St. Emile Way, Kinjarling-Albany. (Entrance is via the back door.) See you there!
