About this Event
This month's guest speaker is Dorothy Saul-Pooley.
Dorothy has led a fascinating life; she was the first woman to become Master of the Honourable Company of Air Pilots, she’s a flight instructor and examiner, writer, editor, publisher, professional advisor and so much more… Added to that Dorothy is also a volunteer at Shoreham Fort and gives much of her time supporting
other charities.
Dorothy is joining us for the penultimate Tin Hut Talk for 2024 and this one has a very local connection. Dorothy met Frank Dell in 2002, when she first moved to Shoreham and interviewed him in 2017, whilst in Australia and has given this talk in places such as the RAF Club in London. In Dorothy’s own words, she describes her talk as follows:
“A presentation on the extraordinary story of local resident, Frank Dell, whose wartime exploits are unbelievable.
Dorothy was fortunate enough to meet Frank on a number of occasions and interviewed him when he was in his 90s hearing how the young Home Guard volunteer turned elite night fighter pilot and his detailed recall as he calmly
recounted the shooting down of his Mosquito bomber aircraft, how he evaded capture in a perilous journey across enemy occupied territory and his subsequent exploits with the Dutch resistance.”
