Growing up in the Western world, we are often asked, “Where are you from?”For many Nuer youth, that question opens the door to deeper ones. Questions about our culture, our history, and what life was like for our parents growing up back home.
Here in Canada, children & youth are rarely taught about themselves. That is why passing down our stories cannot be left to schools or systems. It lives with parents, elders, and our community. Because when we’re not taught about who we are, the world will decide that for us. .
That is why NYA is hosting Time to Travel Back: Naath History, Culture & Identity on January 25th.
We are inviting parents, elders & youth who grew up back home to come and share their stories, traditions, and lived experiences. We are inviting youth and children to come listen, learn, and reconnect with where they come from.
