About this Event
Every family stores their memories – in scrapbooks, photo albums, home videos. During the early COVID pandemic, director Kyle Henry began to playfully explore his own family’s archive, asking questions about what memories are stored and what memories are cast aside. His mother, at the time, was living in a home to help her with managing dementia. During this time when she was slipping away, Kyle used the family’s documents to recall her promising early life, remember her trajectory through marriage and motherhood, and to finally trace their relationship to its inevitable end. Exploring the conflicting feelings of love, grief, guilt, and helplessness that lie beneath the Kodachrome smiles and grainy Super-8 home movies we store, Time Passages unearths some beautiful and difficult truths. With their unearthing, it becomes a memento mori: a testament to love, legacy, and the things that carry us through life’s most challenging times.
