In the days when woodchopping was as popular as rugby, a farmer from Tahora, Taranaki beat the world’s very best. Now, with WW2 looming, a kid claiming to be his son is set to do the same. Inspired by the life of World Champion Taranaki woodchopper - Ned Shewry.In 1940s Taranaki, World Champion Axeman Ned Murphy plans to retire after defeating his rival, but his life is upended when Billy, a cheerful city-slicker claiming to be his son, arrives. Sceptical, Ned dismisses him, but Billy’s determination to earn his father’s love and become a champion woodchopper himself drives the story. However, Billy harbours a secret that could jeopardize both their futures and challenge Ned’s beliefs about manhood.
Three brilliant actors play 14 characters in this physical comedy, featuring horse riding, competitive wood chopping, a town dance, two world wars and tons of heart!
