Thy Kingdom Come - Pentecost Vigil

In 2016, the Archbishops of Canterbury and York launched the 'Thy Kingdom Come' initiative, inviting churches to take part in a time of focused prayer in the week running up to Pentecost. In my previous parish we used to mark this by keeping the doors of the church open for 24 hours through to Pentecost. People responded so positively to this opportunity to pray, that we went on to add a second such Vigil in the 24 hours leading in to Advent Sunday.
This year we're going to try the same thing here at St Peter's. The doors of the church will be opened at 9am on Saturday 22nd May, and remain open through the night.
We're inviting members of the congregation to book themselves in for an hour to pray in church as part of this Vigil. You can do this by contacting me directly and indicating which 'hour' you'd like to be present for, or by filling in a rota which will be available at the back of church from this Sunday morning.
Also, it would be helpful to have some volunteers who would be willing to give the pews a spray and wipe down at 8pm on the Saturday evening, and 8am on the Sunday morning - this should only take 10-15 minutes. If you can help with this, again, please contact me.
It's a wonderful thing that the doors of St Peter's are open as much of the time as they are, and I have no doubt that the sight of our lights on and doors open throughout the night will be noticed and welcomed by many (I will ensure that there is someone in church throughout the hours of darkness!).
Lastly, even if you can't commit to an hour of prayer as part of this vigil, please do drop in anyway even if it's just for a couple of minutes.
