THURSDAY NIGHT PARTY RIDE 2025

Come join Social Cycling Flint for our annual season kick-off ride! We'll be meeting at the Flint Farmers' Market parking lot at 8:30pm, then hitting the road at 9pm.
If this is your first time riding with us, please be sure to read the entire description of this event so we can ensure the safety of all riders and LET'S PARTY!
ABOUT SOCIAL CYCLING FLINT - A group of individuals in Flint, Michigan interested improving bicycle culture in our city by getting anyone and everyone on a bike in the name of visibility and strength in numbers.
HOW WE DO IT: We ride at a social pace, which means a steady pace so many levels of riders can hang out and have fun. However, this is an 8-10 mile ride, which can be strenuous and some routes have more climbs than others. Keeping up with the group is extremely important for safety purposes. We ride AS traffic and NOT AGAINST it. We stop at red lights, yield the right of way and let cars pass as best we can. We are nice to both our fellow riders and the other traffic on the road. If you have any questions about the laws, we suggest you check here: http://www.m-bike.org/blog/laws/ .
When someone shouts "CAR UP/BACK" get over to the right as much as possible and out of any opposing lanes of traffic. This will allow cars to pass safely. In addition, if you're stopping or slowing, make sure to COMMUNICATE that to others around you so they're aware of what's happening. We need to speak as a group to make sure everyone is on the same page!
WHERE WE MEET: Flint Farmers' Market Get there at 8:30, we ride at 9:00PM
WHAT YOU NEED: LIGHTS, lights and more lights (required by law), Wheels, an ID, a bike lock, extra tubes in case you blow a tire, a helmet if you wear one (not required, but always strongly encouraged), etc. It will be dark when we finish, think about adding some lights.
REMINDER: The goal is to create a safe environment for all riders, but we cannot control, nor do we desire to, every rider's behavior. We promote personal responsibility, and it is each rider's responsibility to take care of themselves, and if they choose to ride with us, then they accept those risks inherent in riding a bicycle with a large group of other people riding bicycles. This also means it's critically important to keep your bike in working condition, this means FUNCTIONAL BRAKES. If you show up with a bike that lacks functional brakes, we will ask you to leave the group as not being able to brake threatens the safety of other riders in a group.
There is no age limit on the party rides, but be sure that you and any riders you bring are able to keep up with the group. The distance is 8-10 miles with some climbs, and sometimes that can be difficult for some people who don't cycle regularly. Younger riders are encouraged to participate on a 1/2 bike or Trailer attached to an adult bicycle to ensure they are able to keep pace with the rest of the riders as well as visible to traffic and riders alike. Keep in mind, this IS a party ride and adults will be partying, so we encourage parents and guardians to use their own discretion as to whether they want to invite their kids. It is expected that children will be riding along side you closely as to ensure their safety and the safety of other riders. Failure to keep your kids close to you will result in you being asked to not join us for future rides. Anyone under 18 MUST wear a helmet to join us. If you bring your children on the ride, they are riding at their own risk and by attending you acknowledge that Social Cycling Flint and its organizers ARE NOT responsible or liable for any injuries any children may incur as a result of riding a bike with a public group.
