Join us on December 5 for an Ikenobo demonstration and our Ginza Bazaar shop featuring pottery & a Japanese "white elephant" table.
About this Event

"The Oriental Charm in Modern Space"

Meet the beauty of Ikenobo Ikebana in harmony with contemporary living. In a relaxed, conversational atmosphere, the demonstrator will craft 4 to 5 arrangements, showcasing three iconic Ikenobo forms: Shoka, Rikka, and Freestyle. As each arrangement comes to life, the history and essence of oriental aesthetics will be highlighted, illustrating how the timeless grace of Ikenobo can enhance a modern environment with a glance of oriental charm.


Socialize & Ginza Bazaar from 11:30 AM, Obento box Lunch from 12:00, Demo from 12:30

What is Ginza Bazaar? Named for the famous shopping district in Tokyo, we fundraise with your donated ikebana containers, accessories and other fab items on the "white elephant table," suitable for your holiday shopping. Bring your donation to the event at 10:30 if possible. Contact Ways and Means Committee chair, Shizue Pleasanton for questions. Vendors will include Wuhan Tenugui Art, Origami Jewelry, kenzan, scissors, and your fabulous donations!

Bring checks or cash for Ginza Bazaar purchases. Tenugui Art will take credit cards.

TICKETS: $25 for members. $45 for guests (includes obento box lunch)

All proceeds from Ginza Bazaar benefit I.I.NY, a 501(c)(3) organization. Donations are tax-deductible as per law. 10% of proceeds contribute to the Carola Meller Memorial Fund for education.

Yiwei Zhang is a passionate practitioner of Ikenobo Ikebana. With the title of Ikenobo Second Grade Assistant Professor, rank #10, awarded by the Ikenobo School in Kyoto, Japan, she brings both knowledge and creative flair to every arrangement. Yiwei's expertise is further enriched by her Gardening and Horticulture: Sustainable Garden Design certificates from the New York Botanical Garden, providing her with a holistic understanding of plant materials. Her background in fine arts and early exposure to Chinese painting and philosophy have honed her artistic instincts, giving her a unique perspective in her Ikenobo practice. Combined with over a decade of creative production experience in fashion photography and advertisements, Yiwei approaches Ikebana with a fresh and innovative eye, bridging the traditional with the contemporary.

Beyond her personal artistic endeavors, Yiwei is deeply committed to promoting the cultural heritage of Ikebana in New York area. She has played a key role in organizing many Ikebana demonstrations, collaborating with renowned practitioners such as Joseph Lam, Anna Nakada, Ingrid Luders, Manabu Noda, and Judith Hata in venues including the New York Botanical Garden and the Jay Heritage Center. Yiwei’s Ikenobo work was exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum, Blanc Gallery, and Harrison Meadows Country Club.

Currently, Yiwei serves as the 1st Vice President of II NY chapter, having previously held the role of Program Chair. She is also a board member of the Ikenobo California Pacific Chapter, continuing her efforts to foster the growth and appreciation of Ikebana in the U.S. and beyond.
