Join ceramicist Ed Hill on this day workshop to learn how to throw height on the wheel. This throwing workshop focuses on achieving height in thrown forms and all the necessary steps, techniques and tools needed to achieve this. Through one-to-one teaching and demonstrations, Ed you will teach you the processes needed to make taller forms such as jugs, vases, bottles, cylinders and tall pots. You will gain confidence and understanding in the essential steps and tools needed to achieve height and shape in throwing. This workshop is best suited for those who are confident at centering on the wheel and more intermediate throwers.
Over the course of the day, you will have a designated wheel to use for practice, focusing on hand movements, clay preparation and shaping. The main focus in this workshop is height and the shapes that can emerge from tall cylinders. Emphasis will be on clay proportions, pulling up and using tools to finish forms in various shapes.
You will leave this workshop with confidence and understanding in the essential steps and tools needed to achieve height and shape in throwing. You will choose one piece from your day of throwing to be fired with a transparent or white glaze.
