About this Event
Welcome to Maura Pottery!
In this class you'll learn all about the very first step of pottery: throwing clay on the wheel and creating a basic form. Expect to get muddy and, if you’re a beginner, for it to (potentially) be a little harder than you expect.
Who is this class for?
This class is ideal for someone who...
- Prefers to learn by receiving 1:1 attention and support
- Has taken a throwing class before and wants to get better
- Knows how to center but wants to learn a new form or get better at pulling walls
- Wants to start doing pottery at home, but isn't sure where to begin!
This is more expensive than other throwing classes. Why?
This is a private class for one person, so you will receive my focused attention and you will have a lot of opportunity to practice. Most group classes include a demo and then lots of free time for you to work independently. While those experiences can be a lot of fun, most people don't walk away feeling very successful at a new skill. You should sign up for my class if your goal is to actually develop your pottery practice, either as a beginner learning to throw on the wheel, or as someone who can do the basics but wants to get better. If you just want to have fun with your friends doing something new, I'd encourage you to consider my glazing class instead!
This private class takes place in my home studio, so this is also an opportunity for you to learn how to bring your pottery practice to your own home if that's something you're interested in! We'll review all the key requirements for having a home pottery practice.
Can I bring my friend, relative, or partner?
I only have one wheel available so this class is for 1 person. Please contact me if you want to bring someone else along! Sometimes exceptions can be made, but please reach out to me first!
I want to take your class, but this time doesn't work for me. Contact me! I can schedule classes based on your schedule. My email is [email protected]
Last thing: keep in mind that the goal of this class is to learn (or get better at) throwing. I will not trim, fire, glaze, and refire your pieces. In other words: you will not keep the things you make in this class. If you want to keep the pieces you make, check out my glazing classes :)
