About this Event
‘Through the Looking Glass’ is an exhibition presenting national and international artworks from a range of contemporary, established, and emerging artists. Occupied with themes of illusion and subversion, the work selected aims to present an alternative way of looking through multiple mediums, formats and styles. In a time of ever-increasing governance and surveillance, Lewis Carrol’s thinkings from his original text ‘Through the Looking Glass’ become ever more present. When dystopian sci-fi realities come true, how do we make sense of illogical behaviours, natures, and patterns? This exhibition aims to provide answers.
Many themes are present across the range of artworks - with printmaking, painting, photography, computational, sculpture, design and AI being drivers of communication. Visitors are encouraged to take their time throughout the exhibition, piecing together a puzzle of abstract landscape which tells each visitor a subjective, unchanged experience relating to their comforts and emotions. The work isn’t simply to be aesthetically-pleasing - but challenging, thought-evoking and conflicting. Each artist response to the looking glass presents an individual view of how abstraction in times of needed certainty can offer new perspectives, ways of thinking and being.
Visitors are recommended to reserve any places in advance.
