An explanation of MAID, enriched by an overview of a) legal development (Criminal Code and Charter) and b) medical development (eligibility and safeguards, MAID vis-a-vis other forms of end-of-life care, and practitioner/institutional conscientious objection).

"MAID and Ethics. What Should We Be Concerned About?"
An overview of current ethical concerns, including a lack of governance (differences between reporting and monitoring); the clash between individual autonomy (freedom to choose how to die) and vulnerability (disability, poverty, and mental illness); lowered access to other kinds of care (palliative care, home care, and social supports); impact on families and loved ones; and faith-based concerns.

"Faith and Culture at The Intersection of MAID - How can we engage our faith?"
A review of faith-based concerns and an exploration of how we can encourage our faith communities to engage more frequently in conversation on dying and death.

Dr. Patterson is a Christian ethicist at the Salvation Army Ethics Centre, adjunct faculty at Booth University and lecturer at Tyndale. Her Ph.D. thesis from McGill University was on the ethics of care at the end of life. As one who suffers with the unexpected diagnosis of a brain tumor, she wrote the book “Suffering Well and Suffering With”.

Refund Policy:
1. A Full Refund request, regardless of reason, would be granted if notice in writing is received 2 weeks before the seminar:
- for the seminar on November 9, 2024 by October 26, 2024 @11:59pm
- for the seminar on February 15, 2025 by February 1, 2025 @11:59pm
- for the seminar on March 22, 2025 by March 8, 2025 @11:59pm
2. Any refund request will be subjected to a 10% service charge:
- between October 27 and November 2, 2024 for the seminar on November 9, 2024
- between February 2 and February 8, 2025 for the seminar on February 15, 2025
- between March 9 and March 15, 2025 for the seminar on March 22, 2025
3. If for any reason attending via livestream is not an option for you, any refund will be subjected to a 50% service charge:
- after November 2, 2024 for the seminar on November 9, 2024
- after February 8, 2025 for the seminar on February 15, 2025
- after March 15, 2025 for the seminar on March 22, 2025
Changing from In-Person to Online Ticket (and vice-versa):
If, for any reason, you need to change your attendance from in-person to online (or vice-versa), please note that the refund policy will not apply, since it is not considered a refund. The cost of the ticket, however, will be based on the time the request is made.
