Have you heard or participated in the Tempestry project that creates tapestries out of temperature data? Would you like to explore and respond to fire season data?In this class, we will be weaving wildfire data into three-dimensional tapestries. Using the number of acres burned and the number of wildfires in a year, you will plan out a pulled warp tapestry. Pulled warp tapestry allows the weaver to create 3-D tapestries using a simple and easy to learn process of leaving unwoven spaces in your warp so that you can pull the two edges adjacent to the open space together, creating shape on the surface of your tapestry. Think of it like darts in sewing and you’ll have the right idea. You will be provided with project instructions, a loom, yarns and materials for weaving. Reference books on the technique will also be available.
