OPEN PLAY is drop-in time where players rotate in and out of games. It’s designed to be fun, inclusive, social, and fair — all skill levels are welcome.
OPEN PLAY ROTATION & FORMAT
1. Players form temporary doubles teams on the fly. Games are to 11 (win by 2) to allow for faster rotation. No singles, lessons, or drilling.
2. Play One, Sit One: The courts are to be shared among everyone present, so after each game, all players rotate off to give other players a chance to play. If fewer than 4 are waiting, the winners can stay on and call 2 new players. This keeps games moving and avoids court hogging.
3. Paddle Up = Next Up: During times of extreme crowding, try using the PADDLE RACK or PADDLE STACKING system. That means, put your paddle in the stack when you're ready to play. When a court comes open, the next 4 paddles in the stack are up. Please don’t skip, save spots, or leave your paddle if you’re not around. (NOTE: if you have players who want to play together you can group your paddles and move them down in the stack if necessary, but not up.)
SOME GENERAL ETIQUETTE & COURTESY
4. Open Play is mixed-skill. If you want same-level games (or to just play with your friends) we ask that you play outside our Open Play hours.
5. Make fair calls. If it’s close, call it in or replay the point. Let's keep it fun!
6. Keep it moving. Limit warm-ups to 2 minutes. When a court opens, start right away. Don’t hold up the rotation by chatting or dragging out breaks.
7. Play friendly. Chill with the slams and serves against beginners. Celebrate good shots on both sides. We're here to have fun and make players of all skill levels feel welcome.
8. Respect walk-throughs. If you must cross or go around a court, wait for the point to end and move quickly.
REMEMBER... Open Play only works if we all share courts fairly, play with a smile, and welcome new players.
