About this Event
Thomas Jefferson was, among many things, an amateur archaeologist, and in 1783, spurred on by a document sent him by the French government, Thomas Jefferson excavated a Monacan Indian burial mound six miles north of Charlottesville. It was both a great scientific achievement and a shocking desecration of an obviously sacred site. Come learn about it from award-winning journalist and historian, Rick Britton, who specializes in 18th- and 19th-century Virginia history.
