I'm thirsty for red, I'm thirsty for an estrogen drink. I bite into a red apple with hunger, I smell the scent of a rose that has its thorns pricking my breast. I don't resist pain, I enjoy it.
On the one hand, passive (sleeping beauty) waiting to be liberated. On the other hand, she is active in creating her own stories. I am Maria Magdalena in exile, wearing rose perfume and pondering Cleopatra's poison.
I celebrate various iconographies of femininity, but I also criticize its fetishization and sexualization.
Her ideal is unattainable, but I still desire it.
The anatomy of femininity is the anatomy of the rose. I dissect it, I examine its scent and its sharp thorns.
Two poles battle within me: obedience and rebellion, seductress and humble saint.
I ask myself which decision is my own and what I have been forced to make.
I too am "a modern day woman with weak constitution"

thirst for red is a collage of symbols, historical interpretations and contemporary pop culture fairy tales.
The performance was created in a response to the exhibition Hungry Is My Favorite Word.

Začneme komentovanou prehliadkou aktuálnej výstavy Hungy Is My Favourite Word
a pokračovať budeme performanciou Alizy Orlan pod názvom thirst for red

Mám smäd za červenou, som smädná po nápoji s estrogénom. S hladom sa zahryznem do červeného jablka, cítim vôňu ruže, ktorá ma svojím tŕňom bodá do prsa. Nebránim sa bolesti, je príjemná.
Na jednej strane pasívna (spiaca krása), čakajúca na vyslobodenie. Na strane druhej aktívna - tvorí si vlastné príbehy. Som vyhnanou Máriou Magdalénou, nosím parfém z ruží a premýšľam nad jedom Kleopatry.
Oslavujem rôzne ikony femininty, ale zároveň kritizujem jej fetišizáciu a sexualizáciu.
Je to nedosiahnuteľný ideál, ale aj tak po ňom túžim.
Anatómia feminity je anatómiou ruže. Pitvám ju, skúmam jej vônu a ostré tŕne.
Bijú sa vo mne dva póly: poslušnosť a rebélia, zvodkyňa a pokorná svätica.
Pýtam sa samej seba, ktoré rozhodnutie je moje vlastné a k čomu som bola donútená.
Aj ja som “a modern day woman with weak constitution”.

Performancia vznikla ako reakcia na výstavu Hungry Is My Favorite Word.
