This Third Saturday celebrates the exhibition "salt 17: Adama Delphine Fawundu."
"salt 17: Adama Delphine Fawundu" explores the artist’s African heritage through art inspired by the UMFA collection. This exhibition is the latest iteration of the UMFA’s ongoing salt series. It features work by Adama Delphine Fawundu, Assistant Professor of Visual Arts at Columbia University. Fawundu was born in Brooklyn to parents from Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea; she is of Mende, Krim, Bamileke, and Bubi descent. She is interested in ancestral memory and connection across space and time, using her multimedia practice to confront histories and realities of the global African diaspora. Though she originally trained as a photographer, Fawundu branches into printmaking, video, sound, performance, and assemblage sculpture—mediums that are united by her approach to material and image as collage.
