Exhibition Statement
What does it mean to be present, to pay attention? For most of our lives, we are surrounded by ordinary things that a thousand people may pass by without noticing. You only have to pause to discover the
extraordinary beauty in the ordinary everyday things that are a part of our lives.
“Ordinary to Extraordinary,” is made up of our collective and individual explorations in water-based media. Central to our work, are the qualities of water. Its fluidity and transparency make it a subtle and difficult medium to master. We work individually exploring our personal visions and collectively to share in the expansive, varied, and unpredictable results from our common starting point.
About 6 Bridges Watercolor Group
Our group works primarily in watercolor, but members also explore other water-based media. We came together during the pandemic to pursue our common love of painting. We meet regularly, primarily on “Zoom” to share ideas, discuss our work, and encourage our common pursuit of personal and collective artistic growth.
Our influences are too numerous to include them all, but some notable artists we admire and respect are George Post, Eliot O’Hara, Edward Hopper, Paul Klee, Georgia O’Keefe, Charles Demuth, Mary Cassatt, Winslow Homer, John Singer Sargent and Robert Wade. You can usually see some of their influences in our work. We are as varied as our influences, and this provides “dynamic tension” both in our discussions and in our work.
