Location: Main Library Branch, Room 311AWe tried this training in December and the room was full, so I'm offering it again now that we're in the new year. Come learn practical tips and lessons learned about running for Charleston, WV City Council.
Bring your questions, worries, & even advice to share. Meet other local candidates & engaged community members. You can also check out the library's many offerings while you're there.
This workshop is being independently offered by Joe Solomon--it's not endorsed by the City of Charleston in any way.
*All* are welcome - whatever party or platform (including no party) - as well as incumbents, newer voices, campaign volunteers, just plain curious folks, really--everybody!

A few helpful basics:
Charleston, WV has 26 City Council members:
• 20 Ward seats
• 6 At-Large seats
All seats are up for election every four years. The next election is this year -- 2026.
• Party candidate filing deadline: January 31, 2026 (coming up fast)
• Independent candidate filing deadline: August 3, 2026

Even if you file for pre-candidacy, you will still need to officially file to run between the dates of Mon, January 12, 2026 and Sat, January 31, 2026.
