The Art of Spontaneous Speaking and Storytelling - an applied improvisation course
About this Event

Course Description

As leaders, team players, individuals, we need to be resourceful, think on our feet, take the unexpected in stride, and work well in teams to be competitive in today's fast-paced environment.

How can we develop these critical communication skills?

Improvise. Improvisation is vital in business and business communication. Theatre is all about communication.

We are all performers in our daily lives. We communicate all the time, with greater or lesser effectiveness.

This course is a series of six 1.5-hour workshops, using a combination of techniques from coaching and improvisation.

It applies the improvisational theatre principles to develop these critical communication skills to adapt to your environment. It translates the theories and exercises of improv into application at work.

It also utilises coaching techniques for you to realise your personal communication goals and objectives.

In this course, you will learn the various Applied Improvisation Principles:

  • Trust
  • Spontaneity
  • Accepting offers
  • Listening and awareness
  • Storytelling
  • Non-verbal communication

Why six sessions?

Tapping into the agility muscles of our brain would need regular exercise. Like going to the gym, doing three sets of bicep curls once isn't going to give you those well-rounded muscles. It needs regular workouts.

Similarly, to be mentally agile, we need to work on it regularly. That's why we need several sessions, working with regular people in the class, to build that habit and strengthen those muscles and reflexes.

Dates:

Please advise if you prefer other days, like Wednesday.

Feb 4, 11, 18, 25

How many participants?

Due to the coaching element and to create a safe environment for you to try new things, challenge yourself and take risks, the maximum number of participants is kept to 20.

It is a large sample size for variation and small enough size for individual instruction.
