About this Event

Authors are a lot cleverer than those of us who haven't gone and written a whole book, and a lot of the time, they have written multiple books. Very often as a starting point they will undertake an extensive amount of research, which they will artfully thread into the narrative of their works of fiction, grounding the imagined in reality. In fact, they will sometimes do so much research they inadvertently find themselves becoming an expert in a very specific field.

We are thrilled to be presenting the first evening in our ‘Things Authors Know About’ series, where our panel of tip-top authors have just 10 minutes each to present their Mastermind-worthy specialist subjects.

Join as he talks about his research for , where he delves into the domestic/social history of Edinburgh of the past 120 years, which informed the viewpoint of the spectral cat, Grimalkin, as he prowls unseen amongst the inhabitants of an Edinburgh tenement.

, who’s debut novel, , will arrive on our shelves in April 2025, will be chatting about the herbs and cures administered by the 10th Century holy sisters of the Norfolk fens.

Andauthor, , will be regaling us with tales of Edinburgh's glorious, filthly and greedy 18th Century Music Scene; from castrati to gallows ballads.
