Shoegaze means a lot of things in 2024, but there's one strain that has pushed the genre so far into uncharted territory that you could almost toss it the "outsider music" tag. While the atmosphere and actual shoegazing are still present, this strain has little regard for pop structure and is produced with guitar tones and aesthetics that are wholly of the internet age. Philly's They Are Gutting A Body of Water (colloquially referred to as TAGABOW) is one of the principal bands steering this '20s shoegaze ship. Though the music sounds like it was made in the spirit of a very online bedroom dweller, TAGABOW have developed into a heavy-touring staple of the American DIY underground, and we're fortunate to have them playing at Lincoln's DIY-est venue this fall. This is an off day on their tour supporing julie. Tourmates Her New Knife (Julia's War Records) join them, along with Western Haikus from Omaha.
