GO TO SLEEP
Go To Sleep is a Brisbane/Meanjin based project led by Edinburgh-born singer-songwriter Donnie Mackay. After releasing 2023’s untitled debut album - recorded with Cam Smith at Incremental Records - it became necessary to form a group to bring the songs to life. The now five piece band is bound together by returned favours, entwined musical histories and a shared love of lumbering heavy equipment up precarious stairs, through chocked open fire exits and onto dark stages. Once in position though, their music is light and airy. Worn-looking guitars jangle and sparkle into life above earthy, beguiling melodies. Lyrically, each song delivers you to a place or time or situation but the narrative is hazy - leaving you free to explore the landscape on your own while melodies and harmonies twist and turn in ways both satisfyingly predictable and refreshingly jarring. Oh, and we have really good t-shirts to sell you!
SARAH STOCKHOLM
Sarah Stockholm fuses together 70s and 80s post-punk and synth-pop with moody atmospherics to create dark and danceable electronica.
Performing in rare duo mode Stockholm will lay bare her songs, scratching at the soft underbelly of deeply personal lyrics - sharp angles and cool lushness giving way to sparse, haunting arrangements and Sarah’s arresting vocals.
Stockholm has played sold out shows at Brisbane Powerhouse,Queensland Cabaret Festival and Spark Festival and shared the stage with numerous indie-icons including Screamfeederand Ben Ely (Regurgitator). Her 2023 album Trace of Humanity received wide acclaim spending four weeks in the charts of 4ZZZ Radio and regular airplay on 3RRR in Melbourne.
