Theravada Dhamma Retreat
This Theravada Dhamma Retreat, held from 17th to 21st March 2025, at Coorain and the Origins Centre, Balingup, with Lama Sonam (Ian Hackett), is an opportunity for dedicated practice exploring teachings attributed to the historical Buddha, Siddhāttha Gotama.
The retreat will focus on mindfulness and meditative practices through the “Theravada Dhamma” Puja Text written by Tig-Le House, based on the Coorain text and other sources. The text is a collection of prayers, principles and teachings, providing a rich source of inspiration and guidance.
The retreat offers a balance of group sessions with Dhamma talks, Puja, mindfulness and meditation practice, private practice, teacher dialogues, respite and support in the beautiful setting of Coorain and the Origins Centre.
Teachings and Structure
We explore core teachings daily, including The Four Noble Truths, The Threefold Training, Dukkha, Anicca, Anatta and others, and how understanding and practice support a deeper Refuge. We will be working on developing a mindful, calm-abiding, contemplative, meditative practice (Samatha-Vipashyana).
Schedule
The daily schedule supports learning and provides time for integrating the teachings with personal practice and daily life and includes:
Morning reading from the Puja text, including silent practice, a Dhamma talk and open discussion.
Private one-on-one teacher dialogues as required and requested to support personal practice.
Afternoon Mindful walking or other suitable form of movement supporting integration.
Evening teaching and group practice sessions.
This is a structured and supportive environment for practitioners to deepen their understanding and practice of Buddha Dhamma, igniting an intention for peace and health and cultivating our compassionate minds-hearts and life through the vehicle of the Elders.
Participants are asked to commit to attending the whole retreat as teaching unfolds sequentially, step-by-step, following a line of inquiry, instruction and practice.
