Sky Room Talk LectureTHEODORE ROOSEVELT - THE FIRST PRESIDENTIAL MOVIE STAR
Monday, January 12th at 8 PM
Hosted by film historian Glenn Andreiev
The 26th President of the United States, Oyster Bay's own, Theodore Roosevelt wowed early movie-goers with his energetic on-screen persona. He was not the first President to be filmed, but he was the most magnetic. Mr. Roosevelt could have easily signed a movie contract. Only a fraction of the near 200 short films of Roosevelt survive. Film historian Glenn Andreiev presents a talk on Theodore Roosevelt on film. The program features rare film clips dating from 1897, tracing Roosevelt in action across two decades and the many ways he was depicted as “Teddy,” including in early cartoons.
"You shook hands with Roosevelt, and hear him talk, then you went home to wring the personality out of your clothes."
