On this day in 1985 the Musee Marmottan Monet was robbed just after opening time by five armed thieves who held museum guards at gunpoint then locked them in a cloakroom and removed paintings from the walls of the gallery they escaped with five paintings by Claude Monet his Impression, Sunrise among them — along with two more by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and paintings by Berthe Morisot and by the artist Naruse. We are art lovers at the Yorkshire Flea as you would hope and expect and probably our favourite activity is visiting art galleries and museums. We do however draw the line well short of robbery at gunpoint and do not recommend this as a way of enjoying art at home. We do however recommend that a visit to the Yorkshire Flea can often feed your interest and appreciation in artistic endeavour as there is always a good selection of pictures , prints, etchings, embroideries, tapestries, photographs sculpture and postcards as well as many other exciting and interesting antique and vintage items for sale at our events
