The Yoga of VoiceMarch 15th 11:00 am – 4:00 pm
Instructor: Marcelle Gauvin,
400 hr. Sva Ha Yoga Certified Instructor,
Associate Professor of Voice Berklee College of Music
Join Marcelle as she introduces a new series of voice building postures called “vocal asanas” in a relaxed, day long workshop celebrating the voice as both a sounding tool and an instrument of artistic expression. Root into breathing techniques and pranayama practices that are the foundation of vibrational sounding and resonant singing. Discover your own vocal registers through a series of “vocal flows” designed to expand the range and tonal color of each voice. Drop into your unique resonant sound and find out why this matters so much to your personal singing.
During this full day workshop, “Vogis” (vocal yogis) will learn about the role of semi-occluded vocal tract exercises and their use in optimizing health and managing stress. Traditional light yoga will be woven in and out of the vocalizing practices incorporating vocal sounding and toning with gentle movement and stretching. And finally, participants will apply these techniques to mantra and song ending in a vibrant drumming/singing circle to create connection through community. No experience is required. All levels are welcomed. “If you talk, you sing. If you walk, you dance. All that can do, will do.” African Proverb
