The Yarns Men; hosts a Christchurch based men only monthly meetup.
This is an opportunity for men from all walks of life to hear an inspirational guest speaker, get tips for managing your mental health and supporting others, and have a yarn over some food.
Our June guest speaker is Pete Howard. Pete has a diverse background as a professional artist, designer, social entrepreneur, community builder, and start-up supporter. Following a long period of mental health challenges, Pete was diagnosed with bipolar. This led him down a pathway of self-discovery, learning about key triggers, and how to manage his mental wellbeing. Come and hear his journey and how he chose to look at his diagnosis as a series of behaviour patterns, rather than a life-long condition.
Tickets are $22.50 to cover the cost of a Taco and Beer (low, non-alc, cider or 2 soft drinks if preferred).
What to expect with The Yarns Men event:
- To run for approximately 1.5 hours
- Taco from the Food Dude (who runs the food truck at Two Thumb Manchester Street)
- Hear Pete's story and mental health tipsKey takeaways on how to manage your mental health, as well as how to support others
- The following questions will be posed to the group, and breakout into pairs to discuss:
1) What have you struggled with in the last week?
2) What’s something you want to work on next week?
3) What are you proud of?
4) What gives you hope?

Disclaimer: The Yarns Men; are not mental health professionals. We are simply providing an opportunity for men to have an organic connection through good conversation. The stories and tips we share are not intended as mental health advice, but rather something to consider and discuss with a professional. Please do contact Matthew if you would like a recommendation for a counselor or therapist.
