Your unique voice gives your work emotion, humanity, authenticity and makes it memorable. It is the ‘you’ that informs the way a story is told. As a person, I am angry about social injustice and inequality. As a writer, I can weave this into my stories to explore and challenge. This workshop will inspire you to use your experiences to create compelling characters and challenging and dynamic storylines.
Patrice Lawrence is an award-winning writer for children, teenagers and adults. Her books include Orangeboy, (shortlisted for the Costa Children's Book Award and winner of the Bookseller YA Prize and Waterstones Prize for Older Children's Fiction), Indigo Donut (winner of Bristol Crimefest YA Prize), Rose, Interrupted and Eight Pieces of Silva (Winner of Woman and Home Teen YA). Patrice worked for more than 20 years in the not-for-profit sector promoting social justice and equality. She is a 2021 Costa Book Awards judge.
This has been made possible with support from The National Lottery Reaching Communities Fund, Liverpool City Region Covid-19 Emergency Funding and The Steve Morgan Foundation.
