About this Event
Do you ever feel like the outdoors is unavailable to you once the sun goes down?
Many people find they're unable to access outside spaces after dark. Often, because they simply don't feel safe. This means, come winter, nature becomes inaccessible for much of the working week.
For our February Community Garden Social, we want to break down this barrier to spending time in nature at night. And at the same time, we want to raise some much needed funds.
How?
With a sponsored stroll around Brooklands Park
Meeting as the sun starts to dip, we're going to gather Wellderfolk for two laps of this wonderful community space. Each lap is approximately 2.5km (just over one and a half miles) and you're welcome to join us for one or both of them.
Supported by a willing team of volunteers, we'll lead a sponsored stroll and roll around the park. Allowing a couple of hours to take in the delights of Brooklands by night, we'll saunter past the lake, around the perimeter and through the Winter Glade.
With a brew crew holding space in our usual Community Garden spot, we'll make sure there's somewhere for those who only fancy a single lap - and those who don't wish to stroll or roll at all.
Help us raise some much needed funds
Like our usual Community Garden Socials, we'll charge £2.50 per adult and £1.50 for five to 16-year olds. Under fives are free. Also like our usual Community Garden Socials, if that's too much, just get in touch.
Unlike our usual Community Garden Socials, we're asking you to raise funds through sponsorship. We know that money is tight, so we won't set unreasonable targets. Anything you're able to raise individually will help. Together, we can make a huge difference.
Join us after dark on the 21st of February for a stroll and roll around the park, and help us raise some much needed funds to make nature more accessible for more people, more of the time.
Find out more about the reasons behind this fundraising initiative, and how the funds will be used, in January's Notes from Nature....... (Coming soon)
You can access the Community Garden from either of the car parks - remember to pay for your parking.
You can also reach the park by bus, with several routes stopping on Brighton Road and Western Road. Check with your service operator for times and availability.
