'Revisiting 'Entangled Pasts'.
Decolonial work at the Royal Academy of Arts.’

In this lecture, Professor Price will introduce the work she undertook from 2021 to 2024 with the Royal Academy of Arts in the lead up to the opening of her acclaimed exhibition Entangled Pasts 1768-Now: art, colonialism and change. The lecture will discuss the origins and contexts for the commission of the exhibition, the curatorial vision she had for it and the curatorial principles developed during its planning and execution. The lecture will also outline some of the key artworks included and why, as well as some of the ideas that were staged through the exhibition's design and its curation, taking the audience on a walkthrough of some of the main ideas and visual stories constructed for this retelling of Britain's complex and entwined narratives of nationhood and belonging through its art and artists.
Dr Dorothy Price is Professor of Modern and Contemporary Art and Critical Race Art History at The Courtauld Institute of Art and a Fellow of The British Academy. Her work across modern and contemporary art is informed by her engagement with decoloniality, gender, psychoanalysis, subjectivity, Black studies and critical race art history. Price currently serves on the Advisory Board of Tate Britain, the Art Committee of the British Academy and the Exhibitions Committee of the Royal Academy of Arts.
