The Way Ahead Trio (Calgary, AB) — jazz, ambient, fusion
The Way Ahead Trio was created to explore the sounds of electronic valve instrument (EVI) with acoustic instruments in the jazz tradition. The trio features Jon May on drums, Adam Pettigrew on upright bass and David Lavoie on EVI and effects. Their debut album “Strays” features compositions by members of the group and delves into disparate sonic landscapes from funky and groovy to pensive and ambient.
Cool Cats Combo (Lethbridge, AB) — jazz pop, R&B, blues
The Cool Cats are a five-piece instrumental band with a love for making music. Formed by music students at the University of Lethbridge in the fall of 2022 the Cats have been frequently preforming and volunteering in town with the goal of bringing the arts that Lethbridge has to offer to the forefront. Primarily playing in the styles of jazz pop R&B and blues. With youthful sounds and fresh takes on old classics the Cool Cats are definitely a band you want to check out.
