This is a stunning ‘old fashioned’ endurance ride on the edge of Nidderdale, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The route covers private land with mown grassy headlands, shooting tracks, bridleways, green lanes and some quiet roads. It is hilly, and a challenge, but there is enough good going to make up for the bits where you have to take your time. The ride will once again be raising money for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.Saturday -
This route consists of some great tracks over open moorland heading west into Wharfedale and the Yorkshire Dales National Park, across the Bolton Abbey Estate. The longer 42km route extends out to Halton Heights (nr Embsay) and is well worth doing. There are phenomenal views over the Bolton Abbey Estate, across the Valley of Desolation and extending out to Ilkley and Skipton Moors. This is a very exposed, remote route with minimal crewing although there are plenty of natural water sources and we hope to have a water bowser available for all at the top of the first hill. There will be a crewspot for the longest class at the furthest point of the route (Halton Heights).
5% roadwork. 349m-874m of climbing per competitive class, depending on distance.
Sunday -
This route heads north towards Pateley Bridge where the longer route joins the Nidderdale Way. It covers a mix of tracks, from long grassy moorland canters to all weather bridleways and farm tracks. There are fantastic views across Pateley Bridge and into Nidderdale. There are more crewing opportunities on this route.
Approx 20% roadwork, mostly with usable verges, plus some farm tracks. 400km-800km of climbing, depending on route.
To note - Sunday is weather dependent. If it is too wet, we will head over Pockstones Moor towards Appletreewick instead (the old Sunday route).
Saturday distances range from 10km and 42km. Sunday distances are 20km and 30km.
