This August head to the Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre and step inside a gallery filled with 10000 bright yellow tennis balls to take part in a living artwork by acclaimed British artist David Shrigley. For the Walyalup Fremantle Tennis Ball Exchange visitors are invited to bring a tennis ball of their own – scuffed chewed grungy or graffitied – and swap it with one of the fresh balls on the nearly 1km of shelving. Each exchange reshapes the exhibition turning the space into a playful and ever-changing archive of community contribution.
Part sculpture part performance part community this interactive installation reimagines the gallery as a site of exchange connection and collective creativity.
The exhibition is on at the Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre daily from 10:00am until 5:00pm between 4 August to 7 September.
The Walyalup Fremantle Tennis Ball Exchange is on loan from the National Gallery of Victoria. Purchased by NGV Foundation 2023. National Gallery of Victoria Melbourne.
