The Mount Calvary Heritage Foundation is proud to announce it will host The Moving Wall and the GoldStars Tribute Wall at Pine Lawn Cemetery from Thursday, October 2 through Monday, October 6. This powerful tribute offers the community an opportunity to pay their respects to the brave men and women who have served and sacrificed for our nation.
The Moving Wall is a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., and has been traveling the country since 1984, bringing healing and remembrance to communities across the nation. Alongside it, the GoldStars Tribute Wall honors the memory of military personnel who lost their lives in service to the United States during the Gulf, Iraq, and Afghanistan Wars.
An opening ceremony will be held on Thursday, October 2 at 6:30pm. The program will include remarks from local elected officials, a performance by the Cheektowaga High School band and a presentation of the colors by Buffalo Public School & Western New York Maritime Charter School JROTCs.
Non-perishable food donations will be accepted throughout the run of the event for the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 77 Food Pantry in Tonawanda, NY. This pantry services all veterans who demonstrate financial hardship and are in need of support.
Once open, the Walls will be available for viewing 24 hours a day. Other activations will include a Veterans Village featuring local organizations who offer resources and services to military personnel and their families, and an art display of local veterans listed on the Walls by Cheektowaga Middle School students.
On Saturday, October 4 from 09:00am – 2:00pm, Connect Life will be on site for a blood drive. The walls will close on Monday, October 6 at 4:00pm.
