To mark World AIDS Day, join Steven W. Thrasher, PhD, for a presentation on "The Viral Underclass," his powerful and crucial exploration of how viruses expose the fault lines of society. Based on his groundbreaking studies conducted largely in St. Louis and New York City and told through the heart-rending stories of friends, activists, and teachers navigating the novel coronavirus, HIV, and other viruses, Thrasher delves into the viral underclass and lays bare its inner workings and the fraught relationship between privilege and survival. Thrasher is a journalist and the Daniel H. Renberg chair at Northwestern University’s Medill School, the first journalism professorship in the world created to focus on LGTBQ+ research. After the presentation, Thrasher will sign copies of "The Viral Underclass," which will be available for purchase in the Sold on St. Louis shop.
Before coming to the Museum, head to the Contemporary Art Museum from 11am–1pm for their Day With(out) Art Brunch commemorating World AIDS Day.
