In 2018 the Mercury Prize-nominated folk group The Unthanks, renowned for their close harmonies and deep connections to the songs and traditions of their native North East landscape, were commissioned by the Brontë Society to create a new work based on the poems of Emily Brontë to commemorate her 200th birthday. The group’s song cycle Lines – Part Three: Emily Brontë was recorded at the Brontë Parsonage on Emily Brontë’s own piano. Here they join us to share some excerpts from song cycle, and for an exclusive conversation about the process of making the album, their relationship with the Brontës, and their own collaboration as a family.
