About this Event

Beacon Counselling Trust and The Armed Forces Gambling Support Network (AFGSN) are proud to present: 'The Unseen Enemy' a short film that explores gambling related harms within the armed forces and veterans community. Partners organisations include Ara Recovery for All, RCA Trust, Breakeven, BetKnowMore, Hopegill Media and the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust.

This collaborative production is made possible with contributions from veterans and 'affected others' with Lived Experience of gambling related harms and specialists from within the gambling harms support sector.

Gambling related harms has been identified by the Ministry of Defence as one of the most significant issues facing the UK Armed Forces. Gambling prevalence within the armed forces is higher that of the general population and veterans are ten times more likely to have gambling issues adversely impacting them and those around them than the UK population.

Our mission is to reduce the risk and incidence of gambling related harms amongst the armed forces community through effective education and prevention work aimed at professionals and those in helping roles and creating an enduring support service for armed forces personnel, reservists, veterans, friends and family members.

This FREE event seeks to engage with inividuals, professionals and services who support, or are part of, the armed forces and veterans community to better understand the issues relating to gambling within the military and promote working in partnership to address gambling and gambling harms within a public heath approach concerning this vulnerable group.

We strongly encourage individuals, organisations and Lived Experience recovery groups to attend this film screening as our objective is to work collaboratively in developing effective education and prevention programmes and pathways into treatment and support concerning risk taking behaviours regarding the armed forces and veterans community.
