About this Event
At this event, you will learn more about Ukrainian cinema, focusing on works from different periods that reflect the Ukrainian essence, mentality, and the social characteristics of Ukrainians.
One of the key themes in Ukrainian cinema — and in the Ukrainian experience itself — will be highlighted: self-identity and the search for one’s own path as existential aspects of life.
As part of this event, several short films will be shown:
- “Flying Turtle” (comedy, 19 min) — An office clerk lives the same dull routine every day, but on his way to yet another business trip, a random hitchhiker unexpectedly challenges the usual way of life.
- “When We Were Tensioned” (drama, 9 min) — During an air raid alert, Andrii meets Alisa in a shelter. Their brief encounter rekindles his desire to live.
- “Vitya” (comedy, 30 min) — The story of a car mechanic from a provincial town who dreams of becoming a psychologist, but his father and the family service station stand in the way of his ambitions.
There will be discussions and Q&A sessions between the films and after the screening.
The event is organised by AUGB (The Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain) in collaboration with Ukrainian Film School (Kyiv, Ukraine), funded by Nottingham City Council, supported by Nottinghamshire County Council.
