JOAN BESSIE BIO
The self-titled debut “Joan Bessie” (2018) featured top talent, including; Producer/Engineer Elisa Pensaeng and Juno Award winning Producer/Mixer Ben Kaplan (Mother Mother, Corb Lund, Biffy Clyro), Drummer Ali Siadat (Mother Mother), Composer/Producer Mary Ancheta, and Bassist Darren Parris (Carley Ray Jepsen, Daniel Powter, Frazey Ford).
The lead single “G.G.”, spent 10 weeks on the CBC Music Top 20 chart, hitting #3.
The Joan Bessie Duo, is fronted by singer-songwriter/pianist, Jessica Beach, who has been a staple in the Western Canadian music scene for over a decade, and her daughter, Sophie, who sings harmonies and plays bass.
The Victoria-based duo is currently touring to support the release of the Sophomore Joan Bessie album, “Girls I’ve Lost” (2023). The album is already generating praise for its songwriting, artistry and production and fans are loving the live show.
Here’s what listeners are saying:
"Joan Bessie’s music is hard-hitting and beautifully crafted. Her singing is brilliant. The words are poetry." Patrick Russell, CBC Music Supervisor (former)
"Joan Bessie has a powerful and unique voice. Her new album, “Girls I’ve Lost” is a must listen.“ Chad Martin, Operations Manager VIRGIN Radio Alberta
“This is a solid album all the way through... I love the vibe and production. Will be giving this record repeat spins!” JJ LaBorde, CBC Music Host and Producer
"…her voice sounds like if Feist and Elle King had a baby” Livy Rodriguez-Behar, Dreamboat Music
“One of my favourite artists to host in 9 years of podcasting. Her live performance got me right in the feels. “One Knife” should be bookends in a movie.” Todd Hancock, Toddcast Podcast, (former CFOX Radio Broadcaster).
“This album is very cinematic; it’s perfect for sync.” Chris Beach, Art Director (The BFG, The Adam Project, Peter Pan & Wendy)
“I really enjoyed the album front to back. "Burn My Body” and “How Tired” are great singles!” Waubgeshig Rice, Author (former CBC Host)
