The group’s leader, Martyn Jacques, draws inspiration from his experiences in London’s Soho district in the 1980s, where he spent countless hours observing the contrasting everyday lives of drug dealers, prostitutes, addicts, and gangsters through his window. Serenade from the Sewer is a melancholic yet ironic reflection of those memories, where sadness intertwines with grotesque imagery and tragedy blends with subtle humor.
The audience can expect songs from the brand-new album, alongside beloved Tiger Lillies favorites. Their performances are a provocative fusion of cabaret, punk, opera, and theatrical performance – described by The Guardian as “a provocative mix of anarchic opera and gypsy street theatre,” and by The New York Times as “one of the most unique and subversive acts in contemporary performance.”
