About this Event
The Thing is a four-piece rock band from New York City. The band’s origins trace back to high school, where Michael Carter, Jack Bradley, and Zane Acord bonded over their shared love for rock & roll. They spent years honing their craft, writing and self-recording songs influenced by '60s pioneers like The Kinks, Grand Funk Railroad, and artists from The Nuggets Compilation. As their musical abilities grew, they began envisioning a career path inspired by modern acts like Brian Jonestown Massacre, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, and The Black Keys.
In the winter of 2022, The Thing began creating a buzz around New York City with their live performances. During this time, they met drummer Lucas Ebeling, who had been freelancing in the New York jazz scene. With Lucas on board, the four-piece lineup was solidified, and the band quickly expanded their reach by touring across the U.S.
Their recent North American tour saw sold-out shows in cities like Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Richmond, Charleston (SC), Oklahoma City, Los Angeles, and Chicago. They also landed major festival spots at Governors Ball, Boston Calling, Hopscotch Festival, and Summerfest. Since 2022, The Thing has played over 200 shows and is set to embark on a European tour in the fall of 2024.
The band’s debut LP, Here’s the Thing, was self-recorded at Zane’s childhood home in Sharon, CT, and Jack’s studio in Brooklyn. Shortly after its release, the band returned to the studio in May 2023 to record their second LP, The Thing Is. This time, they recorded with Lucas on drums, focusing on a more experimental sound, with all four members playing together live in the same room. This DIY approach further cemented their ethos and expanded their sound.
With so much already achieved, The Thing has plenty more in store.
LONG LIVE THE THING.
