Business Architects are Architects First: Pragmatically Applying Practices, Patterns, & Principles of Architecture in the business domain.
About this Event

Join us for a thought-provoking session that reminds us that all architecture specializations are rooted first in architecture, with:

  • Shared foundational principles that shape better models, clearer strategies, and greater impact
  • Generalized inheritance-based layering structure allowing us to group capabilities and other artifacts by their taxonomical commonalities
  • Layers of abstraction with groupings of capabilities common at each layer - except for the top layer, where we find the differentiations that distinguish one company in the same class from another and help us understand ourselves, our competitors, and potential M&A targets

Description

Many practitioners of business architecture today come from backgrounds other than architecture, and that diversity makes us better. Just like all architecture domains, Business Architecture is first and foremost a type of architecture. As such, those things that pertain to architecture generally, also pertain to business architecture specifically. There is great value in understanding the higher principles of architecture and applying them to business architecture practices. The application of these principles can help us be more complete, more correct, more consistent, and deliver more value for the consumers of our work. In this session, we will introduce several architectural principles and then dive into how some of them can help us produce capability models and other artifacts that have greater utilization.
