In our current political climate, LGBTQIA+ rights are under attack - we're here to support each other no matter how you identify!About this Event
In the current political climate, LGBTQIA+ rights are under attack, and a large part of this can be traced to ignorance. Some people are afraid of the unknown or challenging the status quo as they know it. Other factors include insecurity, toxic masculinity, hate, and misogyny. We'll be unpacking all of this and leaving you much better equipped to (kindly) debate your bigoted uncle and explain to him why queer folks having basic human rights will never be the real threat.
If you did get "the talk" at some point, did it include education on gender identity? Did it discuss LGBTQIA+ folks in a non-shameful, non-judgmental way? Did it back up claims on sex and gender with science, statistics and lived experience? We know that gender is a big part of our identity, so where are we supposed to learn how to accept ourselves, how to understand our gender non-conforming or transgender friends, or why trans people are being demonized by many right wing politicians these days? It's never too late to change old beliefs about what's "masculine" or "feminine," challenge binary thinking, and find community...
Join me in Barcelona every month to discuss everything you never had the chance to learn while growing up in a world where sexual messages are EVERYWHERE yet sex is too taboo to talk about openly. This edition of The Talk offers a judgment-free zone to learn all about gender identity . . . all while connecting with new friends over your own experiences. No matter what your gender identity is, or even if you've never given any thought to how you relate to your gender, this talk is for you.
Facilitated by sex therapist, Willow Star. IG @withwillowstar
What should I expect? Willow will lead a podcast style interview with our very SPECIAL GUEST EXPERT, Apollo Morrison. You are absolutely welcome to jump into the discussion at any time, however, you can also simply listen and not participate! As always we'll take a 10-minute break halfway through for you to get to know each other.
What topics will we cover?
- Learn the buzzwords in gender politics, so that you can understand the news and your friends all at once!
- Unpack how transphobia is just misogyny in a costume and how patriarchy hurts everyone (yes, straight cis men too).
- Walk away with concrete ways to support gender-diverse folks in a political climate that does the opposite.
- Normalize & feel confident around conversations on gender so that you can more deeply connect to yourself & others!
*TICKET COST: Free to enter, pay what you can at the end. Your free entry ticket includes water and wine. You can contribute to the rental of the space at the end by Bizum, Wise, bank transfer, or cash.

About Apollo, Guest Expert on Gender:
Apollo holds dual undergraduate degrees in Psychology & Catholic Studies, having studied in both France & Spain (where he was a student of Willow’s a few years ago)! He is currently working on his Masters in International Education here in Barcelona. In his free time, Apollo enjoys finding the best iced coffee in town, attending protests for human rights, and watching his current favorite shows: Gossip Girl & The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives - he loves a juicy scandal!
About Me:
Hi! I’m Willow. I hold a psychology degree from New York University, and two masters degrees: one in Sex & Couples Therapy and another in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. I’ve been teaching university students in Barcelona for the last 4 years, most notably in my course The Psychology of Human Sexuality. I've also been hosting The Talk for almost a year already! Understanding your sexuality, relationships, & dating habits is a lifelong journey and no one expects you to have all the answers. These talks provide a supportive environment in which you realize you are not alone in your doubts, insecurities, fantasies, or experiences - and gives you real tools to take home with you. Can't wait to meet you soon!
