Nelson Historical Society - November 2025 MeetingGuest speakers: Wayne Logan & Murray Biggs
Wayne's father, Halsey Logan, competed at the first Beach Racing event in 1949 driving a racing car which he built at the premises of Logan Motors. Over the years he competed at this event in five different cars ranging from purpose-built racing cars, production sports cars and finally in a highly modified diminutive Fiat Bambina. Wayne, born in 1946, was always present at this iconic event right up until 1977 when it finally closed. Murray Biggs is somewhat younger than Wayne, but as a youngster he always attended the Beach Racing and dreamed of building a racing car that he could drive at the event. Unfortunately, the event closed before he could realise his dream but he still went on to compete very successfully on speedway motorcycles and he currently maintains a strong interest in historic motor sport. Last year he organised an event at the Skope Classic motor racing event in Christchurch to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Nelson Car Club.
