Tuff Life Boogie

The Stupids, Yobs, The Crippens, Terror Claws plus more Superb line up of righteous hardcore on a Summer Sunday evening by the riverside. 4pm til 10pm. More acts may be added, but for now the following have confirmed:
THE STUPIDS
Described by John Peel as “highly diverting, playing hard and fast with commendable brevity and lack of attention to detail”, The Stupids ripped thru the mid to late 80s before the wheels came off their skateboards at the end of the decade. It is hard to believe now, but Peel’s adoption of these moronic East Anglian teens into American Hardcore, Sesame Street, pizza and trying not to suck, kick-started a brief period of Stupids Mania in the UK with a number of music press front covers and almost sold out shows for the band.
In 1987, two albums into a hitherto largely unheralded career on an anarcho punk label, even David Bowie’s son was into The Stupids. Consequently, the Thin White Duke himself was name-checking The Stupids in every interviews, at least the ones he did before he actually listened to them. Tommy Stupid’s invite to join Bowie’s ground-breaking new thrash combo, Twat Machine, was hastily withdrawn, but by then Tommy had already burned his bridges with the other band members and The Stupids were wiped out.
However, much to the anticipation and delight of, literally several, fans, The Stupids put aside their differences and returned to the punk scene in the late noughties. They managed a prophetic new record, ‘The Kids Don’t Like It’ and were surprisingly good at the Rebellion Festival. Since then, The Stupids have been able to maintain a gruelling schedule of 3 gigs per year and even found the time to put out a new record in 2023, ‘Slow on the Uptake’, which immediately sold out its lathe-cut pressing of five and a half copies. “Epic” new tunes such as “All Day Vape” show that the band still have their fingers on the pulse, at the same time as getting their own regularly checked by carers.
The Stupids’ return to Preston will be a truly seismic event and you should not miss it!

YOBS
Liverpool misfits YOBS are getting loads of attention at the moment after bursting onto the scene last year in a gloriously scuzzy and hedonistic blaze. Emerging out of the rubble of the now-defunct Liverpool bands Weird Sex and Ohmns (the latter played a great Tuff Life Boogie show at The Continental with Scott and Charlene’s Wedding a while back), YOBS started in 2022 and have been picked up by the renowned Fuzz Club label who put out their self-titled debut album in May.
"All skull-crushing riffs and hallucinogenic effects", as Clash Magazine wrote, YOBS deal in hard-edged, primitive garage-punk salvos that race by with a bludgeoning intensity. Across the album's ten tracks and rapid 26-minute running time, the band revel in an abrasive, fun-as-hell rock'n'roll that will leave your bones rattling just as much as your speakers.
The songs on the album have been hardened by YOBS' riotous live shows, delivered on the record with a gusto that yearns to be experienced in small venues as singer Joey Ackland writhes around the stage and entangles himself with a mic lead. Rule of thumb: any band that has a track on their album called ‘Head The Ball’ is probably going to be good.
Tuff Life Boogie is delighted to bring Yobs to Preston

THE CRIPPENS (Dr and the Crippens)
Dr and the Crippens were Lancaster's contribution to the late 80s hardcore boom in the UK, and ended up being one of the most notable bands on the scene, feted for their on stage costumes, props (such as the infamous exploding head) and antics as well as the music.
Their music was good enough to secure them 2 Peel sessions though and their second album Raphanadosis was a hit everywhere, with or without the stage show.
The band reformed a few years ago with 3 original members, and a shorter name (now just 'The Crippens') and have impressed everyone who’s seen their comeback shows, including a great John Peel Hardcore Halloween event in Preston 3 years ago. Tuff Life Boogie is delighted to bring them back!

TERROR CLAWS
Terror Claws are an 80’s-influenced hardcore band with a contemporary edge, based in the North West of England and feature vets from the Wigan late 80s early 90s scene.
They are inspired by, NOT comparative to, such bands as: Poison Idea, Dagnasty, The Suicide File and Go It Alone.
Lyrics are about anxiety, depression, self-loathing, relationships, living with long-term illness. Tuff Life Boogie has been trying to secure an opportunity to unleash Terror Claws on Preston for a while, here it is!

HEATHENS BLOODY HEATHENS
Heathens Bloody Heathens are a brand new post rock band from Liverpool with a tough edge that will enable them to survive on this fierce line-up of righteous hardcore.
So far they’ve released a 4 track demo on bandcamp with some impressive declamatory vocals from Jason Green in the sprechgesang style that has been abused by less talented people over the last couple of years. This will be good though, do not miss them!
