In 1841, David R. Blood arrived in St. Andrews Bay in a ton and half black-coated sloop later named the Widow. Soon he established residence in the heart of St. Andrews City, a bustling community where he played a curious role until his departure in 1857. This presentation provides a biographical sketch of Captain Blood in the context of the archival history of St. Andrews and a recent archaeological survey by Gulf Coast State College (GCSC) of his former home site. Other current research projects by GCSC in the Old Town community of St. Andrews in Panama City are discussed.Jason Wenzel is professor of anthropology at Gulf Coast State College. He earned a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Florida and an M.A. in Sociology that included a concentration in Maya studies from the University of Central Florida. He recently earned a graduate certificate in Geographic Information Science (GIS) from the University of West Florida. He is on the Register of Professional Archaeologists (RPA).
